Lovely seeing wild horses

I wonder if any of these horses are descended from ones which the native American tribes of Oregon used to ride? Especially since there's a lot of white, pinto, skewbald and piebald horses, which were all colours favoured by the natives. I heard the Nez Perce tribe particularly valued appaloosas (and there used to be great herds of them) but almost all the appaloosas died out or were eradicated after the Nez Perce War of 1876.

i did a road trip through nevada, utah, wyoming, and boise in my early 20s. we immediately saw the wild mustangs all over utah. maybe 3 days into the trip around moab, i finally said "wait. i think the horses were seein are wild. there isnt any fencing!" lol and we continued to see them in utah, wyoming, and boise. amazing!

Loved the horses. Music was a bit too loud for me but was nice music.

Have you ever seen the damage these horses do to a fragile native ecosystem? The damage they do in Arizona, Nevada, Utah and most other states is undeniable. Beautiful? Absolutely! But they are prairie maggots. Invasive, non-native species. Somehow these need to be controlled so that the native species and environments can thrive.
